Vrakas sets time aside each year for its annual volunteer day in which the employees of Vrakas spend a day supporting a local organization in need of assistance. For 2022, its 15th annual event, Vrakas supported Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Community Services organization Robyn’s Nest. Robyn’s Nest houses new and gently used clothing, hygiene products, infant items, toys, books, and other household goods. Robyn’s Nest provides these items free to families within the foster care system, as well as those identified to have unmet needs through Children’s Wisconsin.
For this volunteer project, Vrakas assisted Robyn’s Nest by unloading a semi-trailer truck of toys and organizing them within the warehouse. In addition, Vrakas took up its own collection of toys as part of its volunteer day support. Every Vrakas department and office was involved in this project which made it truly special.
Lona Long Velasco, the community specialist overseeing Robyn’s Nest is such an incredible asset to this organization. She informed us of how Robyn’s Nest serves more than 1200 children every year and that our assistance and donations truly help keep up with the high demand of goods needed by the community. She told us after our day of unloading a semi-truck of toys, that the donations would be cleared out within two days.
In addition to our Vrakas volunteers and the Robyn’s Nest team, also attending was Steve “Sparky” Fifer from sports radio 1250AM The FAN. He was covering the toy drive as follow-up from his station’s listener toy collection.
