How to Scan Documents Using the Notes App on an iPhone (iOS)

Scanning documents with the built‑in Notes app on your iPhone is fast and perfect for making your documents look professional, no separate app required. Follow the steps below to capture, edit, and save scans.

1. Open the Notes App

  1. Locate and open the Notes app on your iPhone.
  2. Create a new note by tapping the Compose icon (square with pencil) in the lower‑right corner.

2. Access the Scanning Tool

  1. Inside the new note, tap the Paperclip icon above the keyboard.
  2. Choose Scan Documents from the menu.

3. Scan Your Document

  1. Position your document within view of the camera. The document should be placed on a blank surface for best capture.
  2. Hold your phone steady—Notes will automatically detect edges and capture the scan for you.
  3. If it doesn’t auto‑capture, tap the Shutter Button to scan manually.

4. Edit the Scan (Optional)

After saving, tap the scanned image to open editing options:

  • Adjust – Adjust and crop edges for accuracy
  • Filters – Choose color, grayscale, or black & white
  • Rotate – Fix orientation issues
  • Delete – Delete the scanned document if you would like to start over

5. Save Your Scan

  1. If you are satisfied with the scanned document, tap the checkmark button in the top right corner.
  2. Tap the Share icon (square with arrow).
  3. Choose the Save to Files option to save on your device.

Scans are automatically saved as PDFs.
