Our Community

For over 50 years, Vrakas has emphasized the importance of giving back to the community. The firm has done this not only through monetary gifts but also by participating in community events, volunteering with local nonprofits, and holding memberships in various community organizations. Additionally, Vrakas employees individually support various community organizations throughout Wisconsin & Illinois.

Community Awards

Vrakas received the 2019 Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants (WICPA) Community Service Award – Organization.

The Community Service Award is one of 10 annual Excellence Awards that celebrate WICPA members and their employers for their achievements. This award recognizes an organization for its community service contributions at the local, regional, or state level. Recipients have initiated or increased their community service activities and reinforced the profession’s reputation for commitment to the public good.

Vrakas Gives Back

As a way to give back, Vrakas supports community organizations with its annual charity lunches program. Each department selects a charity; the firm provides lunch, and employees make a donation to enjoy it. All proceeds go directly to the selected cause. From May through December, Vrakas and its employees supported the following organizations in 2025:

Our Annual Volunteer Project

Each year, Vrakas sets aside time for its volunteer day. Vrakas employees spend a day with their sleeves rolled up, supporting local organizations in need of assistance. In 2025, the firm participated in its 18th annual volunteer day. Each office supported a local organization.

Our Madison office supported United Way Day of Caring. United Way Day of Caring was held at Breese Stevens Field and brought people together to support United Way through its nonprofit partners by creating paper product kits, menstrual hygiene packs, healthy snack sets, and filling backpacks with school supplies.

Our Brookfield office supported Blessings in a Backpack–Waukesha County Chapter. Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for school-aged children who might otherwise go hungry.

Our Kenosha office supported Kathy’s House. Kathy’s House provides a “home away from home” for patients and their families who travel to Milwaukee for medical care. Families often arrive with very little and are under enormous stress. Kathy’s House gives them a safe, supportive place where they can rest, focus on being with loved ones, and be surrounded by a caring community.

Our Chicago office supported Ronald McDonald House Charities: Lurie Children’s Hospital in downtown Chicago. Ronald McDonald House provides essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing for children in need of healthcare.
