The Internal Revenue Service recently announced that it will issue informational letters to Advance Child Credit recipients. If you received such payments, this information will be necessary to your 2021 tax preparation in order to avoid delays in processing and subsequent notices from the IRS.
If this applies to you, watch for an advance Child Tax Credit Letter (Letter 6419). This letter will include the total amount of advance Child Tax Credit payments taxpayers received in 2021 and the number of qualifying children used to calculate the advance payments. If you filed a joint tax return for 2020, you should be receiving two of these letters.
We recommend this letter, along with other 2021 tax filing documents, be forwarded to your tax preparer.
If you believe you have received advance Child Tax Credit payments but do not receive Letter 6419, you can utilize the CTC Update Portal to view/print information online at https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/child-tax-credit-update-portal
