Michael J. Kuhn
Mike joined Vrakas CPAs + Advisors in 1990 after spending over six years at an international accounting firm. Mike specializes in working with closely-held businesses to help them become financially strong and minimize their income tax liabilities. Internally, Mike oversees the firm’s quality control and peer review and is involved with technology planning.
With over 30 years in the accounting industry, Mike has experience working with a variety of clients, particularly manufacturers, distributors, service providers, and software developers. He has specific expertise in working with Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) and not-for-profit organizations. Mike also assists clients with acquisitions: providing due diligence research, preparing financial projections, facilitating financing arrangements and completing transaction analyses. He also provides financial analysis and assistance with budgeting and reporting for growing companies.
Mike began his accounting career with Arthur Young/Ernst & Young in 1984, where he was promoted from audit staff accountant to audit manager. Mike attributes his career achievement to always putting his clients’ needs first, which includes taking the time to learn their business operations and knowing their goals and objectives.
Outside of the office, Mike shares his expertise in manufacturing with his peers in the industry. He has presented at the Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership’s “Manufacturing Matters” conferences on lean accounting and has been quoted in the Journal of Accountancy on the topic of lean manufacturing. In addition, Mike attends events sponsored by the Wisconsin Innovation Network (WIN) and the Independent Business Association of Wisconsin (IBAW).
Raised in Brookfield, Mike currently lives in Delafield with his wife and five children. In his spare time, Mike enjoys playing basketball and golf and attending his children’s events.
