Mary Ellen Michaelson, CPA
Mary Ellen joined Vrakas CPAs + Advisors in 1999. As a principal in the firm’s Tax Department, she primarily assists not-for-profits and real estate partnerships, as well as their shareholders, with the preparation of tax returns and other tax related work. Mary Ellen also works with closely-held businesses and has significant experience with QuickBooks, payroll and trusts.
Prior to joining Vrakas as a professional, Mary Ellen served as an intern for the firm in 1998. The experience she gained during her internship helped her prepare for her current role by learning the needs and goals of the firm’s clients, resulting in increased savings for her clients. Specifically, she has helped one company dramatically minimize tax through the preparation of a complex calculation regarding a research and development election. In other instances, Mary Ellen has helped numerous small businesses improve their payroll efficiencies through QuickBooks implementation.
Mary Ellen was inspired to pursue a career in accounting due to her general interest in numbers. During high school, she had the opportunity to study abroad as a foreign exchange student, which further assisted in her personal development. Mary Ellen attributes her professional success to her hard work and dedication. She also credits the endless support of her husband and the extraordinary work environment at Vrakas.
Mary Ellen was raised in a small Central Wisconsin town and currently resides in the Village of Merton. She and her husband have two children. In her free time, Mary Ellen enjoys reading and spending time outdoors.
